Human by Choice
(with Darrell Bain)
When Kyle Leverson, prematurely retired from the U.S. Army after being injured in combat, and living alone in a remote spot in the mountains of northern Arkansas, goes to investigate on hearing a thud outside his home, he finds, to his shock, that an alien has landed in his garden, after a malfunction in its unreality-drive exploration starship. This is not a War of the Worlds scenario, though. The alien was hurt during its enforced descent to Earth, when its fast-disintegrating lifepod dropped through the canopy of the pine trees on the mountainside and dumped it right beside Kyle's house. When Kyle nervously rescues the wounded creature and takes it into his home to see if he might be able to help it, it is grateful for his assistance--very grateful.
Human by Choice is currently available as an electronic Advanced Reader's Copy. You can read the first chapter and/or order the PDF eARC at Twilight Times Books detail page for Human by Choice
I do not know if/when
I do not know if/when a dead tree edition is going to come out. I haven't heard anything from Doc (or the publisher) about it.
Various downloadable electronic formats are available at the links above and below (PDF only at TT, multiple formats at Fictionwise).
Dead Tree Version
I heard rumors in the vine over at Twilight Times that Baen is very interested in putting the book out after HBC had solid e-book sales.
I hope Baen picks it up. It's a pretty good book.
